Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM)

CBM the Methodology RCM the Core

CBM is a Maintenance Strategy Based on Evidence of Need

Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) Provides Rules of Evidence

A Maintenance Strategy Overview

Objectives

  • Improve overall effectiveness of existing preventive maintenance package
  • Reduce maintenance costs in the face of shrinking budgets
  • Optimize equipment availability

The Strategy

  • Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM)
  • Perform maintenance based on objective evidence of need

The Foundation

  • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM)
  • Developed by commercial aviation, adopted by DoD and industry
  • Engineered process to determine and validate maintenance requirements
  • Ensures safety of personnel and equipment
  • Protects the environment

The Goal

  • Deliver improved equipment readiness while minimizing total ownership costs

The Tools

  • CBM strategy
  • Maintenance efficiency review
  • Maintenance budget forecasting
  • Maintenance engineering education

Continuous Improvement

  • Experience shows that unless a continuous elective review process is in place, maintenance requirements will tend to be more costly
  • Expandable process - can be applied to depot level requirements

Condition-Based Maintenance

CACI's CBM and RCM programs are readily adaptable to a commercial environment and are SAE JA 1011 and JA 1012 compliant. They are also aligned with the aviation sector's Maintenance Steering Group - 3 (MSG-3) process.
